The Freelancer's Guide To Testimonials
Getting great testimonials on your website helps you more than you’ll ever likely know. Clients want to know that they can know, like, and trust you. Testimonials tell them that you are a fantastic freelancer worth listening to. If you’re going to grow your business, you need to get more testimonials. For many freelancers, it’s not easy to get recommendations.
If you’re like me, you’re probably too shy to ask for a recommendation for the work you do. While your clients may not volunteer to give a testimonial, it doesn’t mean they hate your work. Many clients don’t think of providing a testimonial as the next step to closing a project unless they are on a site like Upwork, where they are automatically prompted to leave their feedback. Many freelancers are leaving testimonials on the table because they don’t ask for them.

Asking For A Testimonial
With all of the COVID-19 stuff happening, right now is the perfect time to ask for a testimonial. Your clients are likely dealing with a lot, so they understand what you must be going through too. Use that by asking your clients for a testimonial, even if you are currently doing retainer work or one-off work with a client. The worst a client can do is tell you no.
What To Do With Your Testimonials
Once you have your testimonials, here’s what you can do with them:
Highlight them on your home page and hire me page.
Create social media graphics with them.
Use them when you are writing cold pitches
Create blog posts and case studies around them.
Use them when you are feeling down or upset about the way your freelance career is going.
Add them to sales pages.
Should You Create A Testimonials Page?
You might be wondering if you should create a page dedicated to your testimonials, I don’t think you need to. You could, but I would only do that if it would help you get more business. Some people have fantastic testimonials pages, so it makes sense for them to create a testimonials page. Most people who are getting started only have a few, so it makes more sense to add them to specific pages like your home page and hire me page. Do what works best for you and makes you look like more of an expert.
